How does a wi-fi booster work?
Internal wi-fi boosters and the add-on versions also use MIMO technology to boost signal strength between a computer and a router. The antenna of the router is unscrewed and replaced with high powered ones that contain hundreds of transmitters and receivers for improved signal strength and range.
Power-line wi-fi boosters transfer data between the computer and modem through the existing electrical lines. They use USB, Ethernet and wi-fi networks for easier communication between the computer and the network. The electrical lines data transfer system is faster than data sent by wi-fi.
The most common features of a wi-fi booster include a signal light status, power button, setup button, and remote management technology. Wi-fi booster and wireless repeater are terms that are sometimes used interchangeably but the two devices are slightly different. A wi-fi booster helps boost signal strength under a different network name but a wireless repeater boots the signal range using the existing network name; the latter means that there is no need for the user to reconnect to the network at expanded ranges.
